The Historical Cash Coins of Viet Nam Part 1: Official and Semi-Official Coins by Dr. R. Allan Barker

Review of Book

This is a newly published work that covers all official cash coins of ancient Vietnam and the many semi-official issues as well.  The book starts with the Dinh Dynasty (960 AD) and ends with the final Emperor Bao Dai (1945).  Each reign has a short historical backgound that is  followed by color photos and rubbings of each type coin issued.  The coins are rated by a scarcity scale throughout.  This will help the collector know which coins are the hardest to find.  The photos are very clear and in actual size and will assist in quick identification of any coin and its corresponding variety.

Also included is information on all Dynasties with reign title, rulers name and years in power.  There are maps and information on how coins were cast, as well as other information the collector would enjoy reading about.  There is a handy index by characters to locate a coin within the text.

Why You Should Add This Book to Your Library

This is an extremely comprehensive book for collectors of ancient copper/brass/zinc cash coins of Vietnam.  It is the first book published in full color and in English.  Other books exist in Japanese and French but none of them have the depth, clarity or information that is provided in this single work.  This is a must have resource for any serious collector of Vietnamese coins.
